Senior Project Reflection

(1) Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your 2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
I am most proud of the knowledge I included in my presentation. I felt like I had learned so much throughout the year that I could have talked about it for another couple hours! My sources were legit, and I was able to backup my essential question with reasons as to why it related to what I was talking about.
(2) Questions to Consider
a.      What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)? Why?
AE: Overall, I feel like I did more than accomplish the goal of the 2 Hour. Not only did everyone know what my project was about, but they knew the biology, nutrition, mental, and physiological aspects of it!
b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?
P: I messed up here and there. My faulty essential question caused a misunderstanding in my exit interview. If I had said the same during my exit interview with my new essential question, I know I would have gotten a better grade.
(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
Putting the pieces together! Everything my senior project relates from one thing to another. Nutrition leads to Exercise that lead to Results that lead a healthier lifestyle, which leads to "efficient utilization" of a gym and its community (My EQ) and all of this had roots in my science fair, 3-column chart, etc.
(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?
I had a hard time finding valuable service learning. I learned more from research than I did from service learning because it was coaching basketball, which is a bit off the subject, but still manages to cover my exercise component.

(5) Finding Value
I am a lot more knowledgeable about health, nutrition, and exercise. I know I will be a healthier person, and I know my family will begin to adapt to healthier ways because now I always warn them what's bad and what's good!

I learned about the strategies of coaching. Kids need attention when you are teaching. Since my service learning was teaching my brother, I was able to focus on just him, I was able to get his attention and he able to practice basketball skills with him.

Being dedicated to this team has motivated me to go to 24 Hour Fitness all the time in order to better my basketball skills! It has allowed me to fully utilize the large gym by working out my upper body to be more a more aggressive player.

Helping 2013

I interviewed Sydney Tieu Thursday Morning.
It feels like the juniors of this year will have a better start by senior year since they will already be placed in an area to do their service learning. I feel like if we had gotten this interview, we would have been better prepared. Sydney Tieu knew exactly what she was going to do and where she was going to go for it. I wish I had begun early too.

Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

I will be conditioning the Powder Puff team at I-Poly. Every Tuesday and Thursday, conditioning will run from 2:00-3:00pm. After they get used to the program, I will add more time to train them.

I have completed 4 hours so far. Starting next week, I will add an extra hour to both times. I should have the required hours after a month.

I am conditioning and training a team. Personal trainers at 24 Hour Fitness must be able to communicate exercise routines to their members.

Independent Component 1

L
"I, Johannes Solomon, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work."

I:
In order to complete my 30 hours, my brother was trained to become a better basketball player. He attends a training session at 24 Hour Fitness but was not doing so well. His coach gave me the opportunity to train him outside of the class. When he sees improvement, he recognizes them and praises my brother for his them. I read articles on coaching and training in order to help my brother.

A:
In order to manage a 24 Hour Fitness, you must have personal trainers who are professionally taught to help out members. Although I was not able to get service learning to be a personal trainer because of age and credentials, I was able to train my younger brother in a sport he loves but has trouble with.

I have worked 10 hours with my younger brother to work on basics and fundamentals of basketball that the coach instructed me to work on with him. He is slowly beginning to take basketball more seriously and the coach sees results. My hours are calculated by the improvements of my younger brother.
